Program of the basic emergency & disaster medicine course:

Form of evaluation: final colloquium and practical tests and examinations

Aim of the course: presentation of the organization of emergency & disaster medicine system in Poland & hospital emergency units, pre-hospital units, coordinating centers of emergency events. Reminding of basic and advanced life support in all cases of life threat of internal or environmental origins. Developing skills of resuscitation and electrotherapy, algorithms of management in multiorgan injuries. Organization of through-border support in cases o direct lie threat in the areas of border & passing places between Poland and Lithuania and Belarus.

7th November 2006 morning till 2 PM

Arrival, registrations and accomodation of the participants at Okręgowa Izba Lekarska, ul. Świętojańska 7, 15-082 Białystok (tel. +4885 7321935, fax +4885 7327172) Lunch will be served at Dziecięcy Szpital Kliniczny, Białystok, 17 Waszyngtona St , 2-3 PM

4.30-6.00 PM
Lectures: Emergency & disaster medicine in Poland & current state and near future. Performing duties of emergency services. Plans of providing security to mass events. Coordination of through & border cooperation.
Workshops: Methods of airways& permeability. Emergency management of acute respiratory insufficiency (intratracheal intubation, laryngeal mask, tracheotomy, coniotomy). Pleural puncture, treatment performed on respirator.
Circulatory and respiratory resuscitation (cardiac arrest, BLS, ALS, ABC of resuscitation, cardiac arrest electrotherapy, pharmacological treatment).

6.00-7.00 PM - dinner
Afternoon: social program & integrative reception




8th November 2006

8.00-9.00 AM - breakfast

9.30-11.00 AM Lectures:
Circulatory and respiratory resuscitation & definition, epidemiology and standards of basic and advanced management due to European Resuscitation Council and American Heart Association. Resuscitation of the children.

11.15 AM & 1.00 PM Workshops:
Therapy of acute circulatory insufficiency (access to peripheral blood vessels, techniques of access to central vein, diagnosis and management of pulmonary embolism, decompression of heart tamponade, diagnosis and treatment of acute arrhythmic disorders, rules of hemodynamic supervision).

1.00-2.00 PM - lunch
Afternoon:
Social program & sightseeing of Białystok and neighborhood.

6.00-7.00 PM - dinner




9th November 2006:

9.30-11.00 AM Lectures:
Multiorgan injury & causes systemic reactions of the organism, treatment at the early stages. Thorax, abdominal and musculoskeletal injuries. CNS and spinal cord injures, Glasgow Coma Scale.

11.15AM & 1.00 PM Workshops: Monitoring of basic life functions and interpretation of results during transportation and at the Emergency Care Unit (ECG, pulseoxymetry, capnography, arterial blood pressure, central venous pressure, diuresis), ATLS.

100-200 PM - lunch
Afternoon: visit at Emergency Care Units in Białystok and in Emergency Coordinating Center in the Regional Fire Department.

6.00-7.00 PM - dinner




10th November 2006:

8.00-9.00 AM – breakfast

9.30-11.00 AM Lectures:
Biological and chemical contamination and environmental injuries – burns, drowning, electrical shock, radiation. Disaster. Coordination of rescue teams of specific services. International cooperation.

11.15 AM – 1.00 PM Workshops:
Unconscious patient management. Assessment of patient’s awareness. Epilepsy attack management. Cerebral oedema treatment, lumbal puncture. Diagnosis of cerebral trunk death. Analgosedation of patients in critical state.

1.00-2.00 PM – lunch
After lunch:
Evaluation (final colloquium). Certificate granting. Departure of participants.
